Citrusdal - Explore the Citrus Orchads

Lying between the Swartberg and the Koue Bokkeveld mountains, the village of Citrusdal in the Western Cape Province of South Africa is surrounded by citrus orchards and wide open fields of cultivated rooibos and buchu, watered by the Olifants River that winds its way through the fertile valley. This picturesque village is a mere two hour drive from Cape Town and is the gateway to the exquisitely beautiful Cederberg.

Visitors to Citrusdal will find plenty to see and do, with activities designed to make the most of this scenic region of South Africa. Hikers have many different routes to choose from, ranging from day hikes such as the Kromrivier route, to overnight stays at local farms. The Dwarsrivier route offers walks that can be as short as fifteen minutes, to an eight hour hike incorporating fantastic rock formations such as the Maltese Cross and Wolfberg. Rock climbing is a popular activity around Citrusdal, and mountain biking, quad-biking and 4x4 routes offer some challenging terrain with views that make it difficult to keep your eyes on the road. Freshwater angling in the waters of the Olifants River is guaranteed to be successful, while golfers can enjoy a game at the Citrusdal Golf Club’s nine-hole golf course.
