Franschhoek - Winelands, Luxury Guest House and Rich Culture

Franschhoek is one of the oldest towns in South Africa. Established in 1688 by French Huguenots, it is a destination that has developed into a historical masterpiece surrounded by beauty and offering visitors top class facilities as well as unforgettable attractions. Franschhoek is known for its spectacular wine estates, bustling stores and studios, and a village main street that is alive with energy. Gourmet restaurants are scattered across the town and year round festivals bring color, music, dance and fun to the residents of Franschhoek.

When in Franschhoek, visitors will find it difficult to decide between the numerous activities and attractions available to them. Wine tasting is a popular past time, and wine tastings on horseback can even be arranged. Hike through the magnificent Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve or discover the culture of Franschhoek on a tour of Mooiwater Township. Enjoy the tranquility of fly fishing, visit historical landmarks such as Boschendal Manor, the Huguenot Monument and the Huguenot Museum, or play a round of golf. Adventurous visitors are invited to take to the skies with a little paragliding or challenge the terrain on 4x4 excursions. However you choose to spend your vacation, Franschhoek offers it all.

We found Franschoek a delightful small town. We parked in a small area near the church. To our amazement we noticed a family of spotted eagle owls resident in a tree just a few feet above the ground completely unfazed by human activity. We were sorry not to be able to spend more time there.
