Garden Route - Awesome Nature and Scenic Routes

The beautiful Garden Route stretches from Mossel Bay through to the Storms River mouth. This 200 kilometer route takes travelers through a series of picturesque towns and villages, each with their own unique character and attractions. Certainly, anyone who has explored the Garden Route soon comes to understand why it is considered by many to be South Africa’s “Garden of Eden”.

Those who are looking for a touch of adventure will not be disappointed. Zip from tree to tree on a Tsitsikamma canopy tour, bungee jump off the Bloukrans Bridge, reputed to be the world’s highest commercially operated jump, or the Gourits Bridge if you want something a little less extreme. With many hiking and mountain biking routes winding their way through breath-taking terrain, hikers and bikers will find something to suit their fitness and experience level along the Garden Route. Prepare to do some whale-spotting at lookout points along the way and bird-watching opportunities abound.

When traveling along the scenic Garden Route, relax and enjoy the drive, stopping off at popular spots such as George, Wilderness, Sedgefield, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Nature’s Valley, Storms River and the Tsitsikamma National Park. Other towns along the way include Little Brak, Groot Brak, Herold’s Bay, Glentana, Victoria Bay and Brenton on Sea, all of which have their own special charm and plenty to offer holidaymakers who appreciate the beauty of nature.

Hi guys! Could you help with more info? Like, does the Choo-tjoe have a website where I can book online? How much does it costs? Can you take the train just one way, say Mossel Bay to George? Anemail address would be helpful too. Many thanx. Bahama Bob

Me and my family just rode the train about a week ago and what a wonderful experience it was. The only dissapointment on our day of train riding was that they had to use the diesel loco. Not because of fire hazard, but because of water restrictions. The Eden Area currently sufffers immense drought. (The steam loco uses about 20 000 Liters of water per trip) The train ride was very nice, although NOT so nice as it used to be when it done the Knysa route. The only other problem I experienced with my small children, when we arrived in Mosselbay... NO EATING PLACE nearby!!! There is a fish restaurant next to the museum, but my children are allergic to seafood. Next stop.. Wimpy in the small mall... again dissapointed!!! the place is full and it is obvious that we wouldn't get a table in time. (the train stops for 2 hrs in Mosselbay ... 12H00 pm - 14H00 pm) My advice is... encourage / allow food and drink stalls next to the train stop in Mosselbay with adequate seating and shade. Or inform passengers beforehand to pack a picnic bag. We had to stay hungry until we were back in George :-) Oh yes, and a final word of advice... you need to BOOK your seats at least 24hrs beforehand. Other than that ... enjoy the ride !!!
