Gordon's Bay - Popular Holiday Destination

Together with Somerset West and Strand, Gordon’s Bay forms part of South Africa’s Helderberg Basin, so named after the Helderberg Mountains that create a scenic backdrop to this charming seaside town. The waterfront with its promenade lined with coffee shops, cafés and restaurants, is arguably the main attraction of Gordon’s Bay. Bikini Beach is the hotspot for the younger crowd to gather, with beach volleyball, surfing and kayaking being popular leisure time choices, while the main beach with its gentler waves and paddling pools is more family-oriented.

Lying on the eastern edge of False Bay, Gordon’s Bay is included in the stretch of coastline that is renowned for its whale-watching opportunities. Not only is Gordon’s Bay a superb holiday destination in its own right, it is also conveniently situated near to some of the Western Cape’s top tourist destinations. With its white-washed Cape Dutch architecture and oak-lined avenues, Stellenbosch and a host of wine-route options are a mere 35 minutes from Gordon’s Bay, while Cape Town to the west and Hermanus to the east, are only 40 minutes away. Accommodation in Gordon’s Bay is plentiful, with options to suit virtually any budget, making it an excellent Western Cape holiday destination.
