Fancourt Golf Estate – Excellent Golf and Outstanding Accommodation
Considered by many to be South Africa’s golfing capital, Fancourt Hotel & Country Club Golf Estate features a series of golf courses on a picturesque estate. The estate originally started life as a simple farming estate which soon became the winter retreat of a wealthy Englishman. The property switched hands repeatedly after the original owners death until the opportunity to develop it as a golfing estate was seen and the property was snatched up. Today the Fancourt Golf Estate still features the original farmhouse and there is a sense of history and luxury even in the more modern buildings. Yet the large farm that once served as an alluring distraction for a rich man has now been replaced by every golfer’s dream – four different golf courses all within close proximity to each other.
The facilities are amazing with two of the four 18-hole courses being of championship level. Both of these were designed by South Africa’s legendary golfer, Gary Player. The courses are ‘Outeniqua’, ‘Montague’ (which are Par 72), ‘The Links’ and ‘Bramble Hill’. There is a definite emphasis on exclusivity at the Fancourt Country Club and Outeniqua, The Links and Montague are strictly reserved for members of the estate and hotel residents. Bramble Hill, on the other hand, is designed to cater for visitors and it is also one of the cheapest courses to play on – though it certainly doesn’t lack anything. Of course, golf clubs and golf carts can be hired at the Country Club.
Fancourt Hotel & Country Club Golf Estate also has a golf school complete with a 4-hole course, an under-roof driving range and classrooms. The clubhouse features a restaurant, a bar, a pro shop, tennis courts, a swimming pool and a fitness centre. Visitors can also enjoy volleyball, a Jacuzzi, a steam room, darts and billiards. Children are well-catered for and since Fancourt enjoys such stunning natural surroundings, there are plenty of hiking and bird-watching opportunities. The Fancourt Hotel provides luxury accommodation while guest houses in George cater for those on a tighter budget. Fancourt is right near the city of George and it can be reached via road or air. So come and visit one of the ‘Great Golf Resorts of the World’ and enjoy the Fancourt experience.
