Leopards Creek – Outstanding Golfing
Stalking the southern border of the Kruger National Park in the heart of Mpumalanga, you’ll find one of the ultimate combinations of exclusivity, luxury and skill – Leopard Creek. Situated near Malelane, this 360-hectare golfing development has made excellent use of the natural environment to ensure a unique, African bushveld golfing experience. The centerpiece of the establishment is a championship 18 hole-golf course which was designed by Gary Player.
The legacy of the Leopard Creek golfing establishment probably started long before 1995 when the owner and developer Johann Rupert bought the property and started to develop it. For Rupert, Leopard Creek was a dream that had finally become a reality and you can sense the energy and passion that went into making the estate from the moment you arrive here. The golf course and lodges are designed to be as complimentary to the natural environment as possible and an array of lakes and streams serve to make the establishment more scenic. When Leopard Creek opened one year later in 1996, it was an exclusive club which could be joined by invitation only. It has recently been remodeled and the grass on the greens has been changed and a sub-air system has been installed. Golfing hazards are particularly interesting since much of the water is home to not only crocodiles but hippos – one of the deadliest creatures in South Africa.
Leopard Creek is more than just an excellent golf course. The recreational facilities include a brilliant swimming pool, a paddling area and a changing area, two all-weather tennis courts and a squash court. A poolside bar provides refreshment while swimming and a traditional boma provides the perfect setting for evening meals. The gymnasium is air-conditioned for greater comfort. These facilities can be combined with game viewing and bird watching and an excellent climate which allows you to enjoy them on a year-round basis. Leopard Creek is only about four hours from Johannesburg by car or forty minutes by plane. So come and enjoy one of South Africa’s premier golfing establishments the next time you are in the area.
