South African Cultural History Museum

Pretoria is home to a host of monuments and museums that showcase the history of South Africa. One of these museum marvels is the National Cultural Museum, which is often referred to as the African Window. Many museums outline the history of their country, but few actually retrace the steps of history as far back as the Stone Age, or look at individual cultures in the greatest of detail. It is these features of the National Cultural Museum that make the museum unique and immensely fascinating.

Although the museum hosts a variety of temporary exhibitions to provide the public with new attractions to view, there are a number of permanent exhibitions that visitors will enjoy. Some of the exhibits include an art gallery, Cape Dutch furniture, a look at the Stone Age, San rock art, space exhibits and a host of photographs, items and manuscripts that document South Africa’s heritage. Sculptures and breathtaking works of art bring the talents of the country to life and help the museum to promote the cultures of South Africa through a visual showcase of color, tradition, festivals and education.
