Gonubie Beach – Stunning Blue Flag Beach

Located a mere eight kilometers from East London, the seaside village of Gonubie in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa is considered by many to be a suburb of the city. But the relaxed lifestyle and stunning scenery in Gonubie confirms that this is no city, but rather a place for city-dwellers to retreat to when the hustle and bustle of city life gets too much. Lying on the estuary of the Gonubie River, with vegetation covered dunes rising up from the shore, and enjoying mild winters and hot summers, Gonubie is a little piece of paradise on the Eastern Cape Coast.

To protect the sand dunes and the indigenous vegetation growing on them, a 500 meter long raised boardwalk has been built leading down to the beautiful tidal pool. The boardwalk also provides a superb vantage point for watching dolphins and whales frolicking in the waves offshore, as well as watching the surfers and sail-boarding daredevils. The lagoon at Gonubie is a favorite with families as the kiddies while away the hours searching for shells, sea snails, fish and other little sea creatures. Certainly, few would deny that Gonubie beach is a little piece of paradise.
