Hout Bay Beach – Beautiful Sandy Beach

The beach of Hout Bay, a suburb of Cape Town, stretches from the starting point of the scenic Chapman’s Peak Drive along the coast to the charming Hout Bay Harbor. The beautiful white sandy beach is one of Hout Bay’s major attractions, with visitors enjoying the cool waters and the carefree atmosphere, and depending on the time of year, holidaymakers may spot some dolphins, or even a whale, in the bay. The section of beach closest to Chapman’s Peak offers gentle waves for swimming and is a popular launching spot for sea kayakers.

As one of the world’s sixteen recognized big wave spots, with swells of up to 14 meters being recorded, Hout Bay beach is a surfer’s paradise and the venue for world-class surfing events including the annual Red Bull Big Wave Africa. Even the most experienced surfer will find a challenge in the area called the “Dungeon”.

Residents refer to their picturesque suburb, surrounded by wine farms, the ocean and magnificent mountains, as the Republic of Hout Bay, and certainly is a world apart from the hustle and bustle of the city. So, be sure to add Hout Bay beach to your itinerary when visiting South Africa’s vibrant Mother City.
