South Africa’s Economy and Stock Market

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) has been in existence since 1887, and over the last hundred and twenty years it has been vital to the stock market and trading in South Africa. Located in the heart of the country’s economic hub, Sandton, Johannesburg, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange is where the majority of financial trading takes place. And with South Africa having a wide variety of markets and industries, it is one of the world's busiest and biggest stock exchange centers.

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange has major entities as customers, such as SAB, Anglo and Angloplat, and provides its customers with a platform to clear equities, make use of electronic trading, settle equities and provide financial and agricultural derivatives. With millions of Rands worth of exports, imports and industries such as agriculture, energy production, transportation and mining, to name a few, contributing to the economy of South Africa, the eighteenth largest stock exchange does not slow down for a second, with thousands of transactions passing through the JSE on a daily basis.
