Ficksburg – Green Agricultural Lands

Ficksburg is a breath away from Lesotho, and is located in the eastern region of the Free State Province. With the Maluti Mountains and vast, green agricultural lands as its backdrop, the small town of Ficksburg is as beautiful as it is interesting. With a magnificent variety of activities and attractions for visitors to enjoy, it is a destination that offers visitors all they could want and more.

For hiking and nature enthusiasts, Ficksburg overflows with magnificent outdoor activities such as the Cherry Trail and the Imparani Hiking Trail. The mountains can be explored on a Basotho pony and the rock and cave paintings left behind by Bushmen are a sight to behold. Murals by Pierneef and other breathtaking works of art can be seen at the SH Pellissier Art Gallery, while Art Workshops are also available at the Malutizicht Lodge. Water sport adventurers can take to the water at the Meulspruit Dam and for a truly thrilling and exciting experience; visitors are invited to try their hand at polo, where professionals will teach them all they need to know at the Franshoek Polo School.

But Ficksburg is probably best known for its cherries, especially being home to the biggest cherry farm in Africa. Bookings are essential to tour the cherry farm or visitors can ensure that they visit the town during November, where for three days, the Cherry Festival allows visitors to immerse themselves in parades, fireworks, horse shows, fun runs and more importantly, cherries! Ficksburg is a town that offers visitors the opportunity to explore the beauty of the Free State, while enjoying fun activities and unforgettable sights.
