Middelburg – Stainless Steel Capital of South Africa
The Stainless Steel Capital of Africa goes by the name of Middelburg. It is located in the Mpumalanga Province and has grown into an industrial hub since its establishment in 1864. It was originally named Nasareth, but was renamed in 1872 to reflect its location half way between Lydenburg and Pretoria. The town has developed not only as an economic center, but as a popular holiday destination.
Middelburg offers a whole host of activities and attractions in town and in the surrounding areas, including hiking trails, the Kruger Dam, bird watching, golf, arts and crafts, 4×4 trails, abseiling, horse riding, quad biking and watersports. Nature reserves and wildlife establishments, such as Kruisrivier Nature Reserve, Loskop Reptiles, Moepels Game Farm Nature Reserve and Luiperdkrans Game Farm, provide wildlife adventures and day excursions. Visitors are also recommended to spend some time at the Middelburg Dam, the Botshabelo historical village, the 1890 Dutch Reformed Church, the Ndebele Village and the Memorial Museum.
Middelburg is a town that will fascinate and thrill visitors as it has the perfect balance between tranquil natural attractions and a modern town that gives visitors the opportunity to shop, watch movies, enjoy a good meal and take advantage of its comfortable accommodation and facilities.
