A ‘Steamy’ Evening at Carnforth. 18th July 2012

This video shows a busy evening of steam locomotive action at Carnforth on 18th July 2012. Not seen 3 steam locomotives on different trains within the space of 1 hour on the wcml probably since the end of steam in 1968. Firstly we see LNER A4 Class 4-6-2 no 60009 'Union of South Africa' arrive back at Carnforth after doing a loaded test run. This train ran as 5Z41 1005d Carnforth WCR to Carnforth WCR via Settle Jct, Hellifield, Clitheroe, Blackburn, Preston and Lancaster. Once it arrived back at Carnforth, the kettle and support coach was detached and moved onto shed. Next we see LNER A4 Class 4-6-2 no 60009 'Union of South Africa' move off shed, after turning, coal and water, and prepares to start her journey home to Crewe. Running as 5Z42 1953d Carnforth WCR to Crewe HC. Whilst the above move with the A4 is taking place, passing through Carnforth on the WCML, is LMS Class 5MT 4-6-0 no 44871 tagged on the rear of 5Z71 0905d Fort William to Bury. 44871 going to Bury ELR for tyre turning, whilst the class 47 taking the stock to Tyseley for tyre turning. The final kettle to be seen at Carnforth on this evening is LMS 8F Class 2-8-0 no 48151 with the Fellsman ECS 5Z53 2049d Lancaster to Carnforth, arriving at Carnforth.
