Dancing for the King of the Zulus – Natanya van der Lingen

Winner of the Festivals section of the Wanderlust & GoWander Travel Video of the Year Competition 2009 Every September, 15 000 Zulu virgins parade for the King in rural Zululand, South Africa. This festival is called Umkhosi woMhlanga, the Royal Reed Dance Festival. Each girl carries a 4m tall reed which is presented to the King. The day is filled with singing and traditional dancing and the surprise arrival of Jacob Zuma.
