Cape St. Blaize in Mossel bay South Africa, 2003 - lighthouse and cave Mossel Bay (Afrikaans: Mosselbaai) is a harbour town of about 60,000 people on the Southern Cape (or Garden Route). The Cape St Blaize Cave is situated directly under the Cape St. Blaize Lighthouse, is the site of one of South Africa’s oldest archaeological excavations. The Cave has revealed deposits dating from about 200,000 years ago to the pre-colonial period, during which time middens were laid down by herders of the San or Khoekhoen people.
