Fisherman netting sardines from the Shores on the Natal South Coast every year from June to about end July, the nets can catch anything from 100 crates to 300 crates depending on the size of the bag at the end of the net each crate carries about 30 dozen sardines,these nets are pulled in by hand and it can be dangerous because of currents and big swell to get the nets back to shore, the fish will be sold to buyers who in turn sell to the public for eating. The oils in sardines are very good for humans.
