The Cumbrian Mountain Express & 47472 at The Ribble Steam Railway 04-08-2012

A day of steam in Lancashire in a very warm and humid August. featuring Ex-LNER 'A4' 60009 'Union of South Africa' and 'Jinty' 47406 at the Ribble Steam Railway, renumbered as 47472, the former Preston station pilot locomotive. We begin with the A4, today heading the 3rd consecutive Cumbrian Mountain Express, running from Crewe to Carlisle and return outwards via Settle and return via Shap. After the cancellation of the service train I intended to catch, and with the second train running behind, it was really just blind luck that I got any footage at all, however on arrival at Bolton, the A4 had not yet arrived and was holding up all service trains behind it. So the first shot sees 60009 departing from Bolton running approximately 15 minutes late. One of the service trains held up was the next one I intended to catch, the 0820 to Clitheroe, so it was then off to Ramsgreave and Wilpshire, where 60009 is seen breasting the summit of Langho bank then coasting down the 1 in 80 through the station and beyond to Langho itself. It was then an easy run over to the Ribble Steam Railway in Preston, where as part of the 'Guild Reunion' weekend, a reunion of Lancashire footplate crews from steam days, Great Central based 'Jinty' no. 47406 was renumbered 47472 and brought over to the RSR for the weekend. On this day, 47472 was in the safe hands of driver Steve (steamdriver12 Senior) apart from one run by Andrew Fowler, who organised the whole event from scratch, and is seen at various locations on the 1 3/4 mile long branch including the Preston Riverside platform, Lockside road crossing, The Britannia straight and foot crossing, and the exchange sidings. Nice to see fellow youtubers Peter (the19400812) at Ramsgreave, & Mark (monopodmansdad) and Joseph (monopodman) aswell as the Preston Station website owner Adrian Bradshaw at Preston.
