Union of South Africa, Tornado, Clan Line and Tangmere – All on 8th December 2012

What do you do when there are four steam excursions on the same day, all within easy reach, and you can't decide which to follow? Well, if you're mad, like us, you cover them all. Our first target was The Lindum Fayre, running from Kings Cross to Lincoln behind 60009 Union of South Africa. For this we went to the outskirts of Welwyn Garden City and set up in the shadow of Welwyn Viaduct. After the A4 had passed, we moved across to Tilehurst for the Southend to Oxford "Cathedrals Express", with 60163 Tornado. Unable to spread out too far, the two shots are of Tornado covering the same piece of ground. From Tilehurst, it was on to Shalford and 35028 Clan Line with a Surrey Hills VSOE. For the fourth and final train, 34067 Tangmere and the Three Bridges to Bristol "Bath Christmas Market", we headed down to Worthing and then, finally, to Balcombe. It's a shame that we couldn't work in Rood Ashton Hall's "The Lincoln Christmas Market", but you can't have everything.
